Central Spain
We are very excited to present you with our new Brass Band Tour to the Castile region, a fantastic opportunity to discover Spain beyond the Costas. A beautiful and culturally thriving city, Segovia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is a candidate for the European Capital of Culture.
Against the backdrop of the Guadarrama Mountains, Segovia’s skyline is dominated by a 28 metre high Roman aqueduct, a magnificent late Gothic cathedral and the Alcázar, one of the most distinctive castle-palaces in Spain. Suffused with a Jewish, Moorish and Christian past, Segovia’s heritage also includes mouth-watering cuisine and delightful local wines.
A short trip will take your band to the city of Toledo, sitting just above the River Tagus. The capital of Spain until Madrid took its place in the mid-16th century, the city is steeped in history and intrigue. The large number of squares and gardens in the area, which have been specifically designed for public performances, ensure that evening concerts are extremely popular amongst the locals. As this region offers so much for brass bands we highly recommend a two-centre tour staying in Segovia and Toledo.
Where to Play
Bandstand, Plaza Mayor, Segovia
This lovely bandstand is situated in Segovia’s enchanting main square. The surrounding restaurants and cafés guarantee a receptive audience.
Town squares and Teatro Rojas, Toledo
In Toledo, we organise concerts in collaboration with the City Council’s Department for Culture. Outdoor concerts attract a great crowd in the various squares of the city, including the Plaza del Ayuntamiento in front of the town hall. It is also possible to arrange an indoor concert, perhaps for a local charity, in the Teatro Rojas – Toledo’s theatre.
San Francisco Auditorium, Ávila
This former church, which has been converted into a stylish modern auditorium, is a short walk from the old town and is suitable for all types of concerts.
What to Do
Toledo
Highly recommended for a day trip, or a second centre for your tour, the old city is located on a mountaintop surrounded on three sides by a bend in the Tagus River. It contains many historical sites, including the famous Alcázar, the cathedral and Plaza de Zocodover, a thriving central market place.
Museum of Provincial Wine, Peñafiel
The museum is located in the castle of Peñafiel in the Ribera del Duero wine region. A guided tasting tour is possible and audio-guides of the museum can be provided in English.
Ávila
Best known for its medieval city walls, a visit to the fortress-like Gothic cathedral is also a must.
Madrid
A visit to this area is not complete without seeing the Spanish capital, littered with an array of impressive buildings such as the Royal Palace, Royal Theatre and National Library. A visit to the Bernabéu, home of Real Madrid, is a popular choice for many of our touring bands.
