Invigorate your Choir in Italy

Beautiful colours, warmth, history, refinement, unique character and an overwhelming sense of calm – combine this with spectacular scenery, stunning architecture and host of fantastic performance venues and surely you have the ideal destination for your next choir tour? There is only one destination where you will find all of this in abundance - Tuscany!

This Italian treasure contrasts bustling cities with breathtaking countryside, both of which are equally appealing. Just as famous for the majestic art of Florence as for the soft wine of Chianti, this is a region that doesn’t just offer a choir magnificent – and sometimes intimate – performances, it offers equally magnificent experiences as well.

Take the colours; rich summer sun illuminating the golden fields, deep green Cypress trees and vineyards that coat the colourful landscape. Or take the tastes. The many farms and vineyards are often part of the great castle estates which offer a chance to taste their fine produce; soft wines, flavoursome oils and home baked breads, in often breathtaking natural settings.

Any experience of Tuscany will capture all these ingredients. Begin in Florence, with visits to the Uffizi Gallery, the Pitti Palace and the Florence Duomo - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As one of the finest examples of a Renaissance city left in the world, layers of the region’s history are carefully preserved and maintained, as modernisation is prevented by law. Journey out from Florence to San Gimignano, and the hilltop skyline is disconcertingly impressive considering it’s a medieval structure.

On your return to Florence, travel into the hills for wine-tasting at the Castello Vicchiomaggio. Allegedly dating from 1400, this castle has a commanding presence at the top of the Greve Valley and allows you to sample the produce while taking in the breathtaking scenery.

And, located close by, but a little off the beaten track, is the gem of Greve in Chianti, a hamlet boasting the most traditional of market squares, overlooked by the Chiesa Santa Croce. Go there on market day for a unique and memorable atmosphere, great produce and a glimpse of Tuscan life as vital as anything in Florence or Pisa.

High culture and rustic simplicity, busy cities and unspoiled landscapes, thriving traditions and a glimpse into perfectly preserved history – and that is before we mention the spectacular performance venues available to your choir. Tuscany makes an impression which is not forgotten quickly.
