Choir Tours to the Costa Brava
The Costa Brava is a diverse region, boasting extraordinary natural beauty and heritage which is far from the package holiday destination it has long been considered. Based in the small coastal resorts of the Costa Brava, whether you wish to relax by the waterfront, or take in the rich culture and colours of the city, this tour is ideal.
A journey along the coast takes you into Barcelona, where the incredible Sagrada Familia, Parc Güell and Las Ramblas are wonderful for all to experience. Performance venues here range from coastal promenades and resort hotels to renowned cathedrals and sacred basilicas; providing an opportunity for all types of choir to perform amid the warm climate and quaint coastal ambiance.
Where to Sing
Montserrat Basillica
The rugged mountain of Montserrat is one of the most impressive of Spain’s natural sights and the journey to the monastery is an experience in itself, providing spectacular views across the Catalan countryside. Within the Basilica’s impressively ornate interior, choirs are invited to perform a short a cappella recital of sacred music before the famous Escolania Boys’ Choir sings. Hundreds of pilgrims and tourists visit the site every day providing an enviable audience for groups.
Barcelona Cathedral
Close to the Plaça Catalunya and Las Ramblas, this Gothic masterpiece has played a prominent part in Barcelona’s history since 1298 when construction began and performing in this striking cathedral is a memorable experience for choirs. To mark the martyrdom of a 13 year old saint in Roman times, 13 white geese can be spotted in the cloisters to this day.
Sant Vicenç Church, Tossa de Mar
This friendly parish church welcomes all kinds of repertoire and has a regular series of concerts that take place after Mass. Good audiences can be expected, with tourists and locals alike enjoying performances.
Hotel Olympic Park, Lloret de Mar
Perform on the purpose built stage in one of Lloret de Mar’s quality hotels. The Pergola room has terrace doors which, in good weather, open out into the hotel grounds offering your audience the perfect opportunity to sit back with a beverage and enjoy your choir’s performance.
Attracting an Audience
We place adverts in local ‘what’s on’ guides, on local community event websites, as well as send posters and flyers to a number of churches in the area. It is not uncommon for local newspapers in these regions to feature articles about visiting choirs and their upcoming performances. Some of the larger venues may also have their own websites on which we can publicise your concert.
What to Do
There truly is something for everyone in the Costa Brava, with sun-seeking beach lovers, city dwellers and culture hunters all catered for.
Barcelona is a city renowned for its architecture and cosmopolitan atmosphere and a walk along the city’s most famous street, Las Ramblas, with its shops, cafés and street entertainers, will open up a world of new sights and sounds which epitomise the city. Whether your next choice is a visit to Gaudí’s Sagrada Familia, a ride on the Montjuïc cable car system with its breathtaking views, or a stop at the grand capacity Nou Camp football stadium, your choir is certain to be dazzled.
For a true taste of Spanish culture, a visit to a converted farm in the hills near Santa Susanna is the perfect setting for La Siesta Flamenco Show. This evening of fantastic flamenco dancing, with accompanying singer, guitarist and plenty of sangria on hand, is a great night out for the whole party.
If you’re looking for a town steeped in history then the old walled centre of Girona is perfect. Standing on a hilltop over the River Onyar, the city’s narrow streets are filled with sights, the best of which is the splendid Gothic cathedral, majestically set upon a towering flight of steps.
Where to Stay
Hotel Monteplaya
The swimming pool with its cascading waterfall provides the centrepiece for this delightful hotel. You can relax on the terraces, soaking up the Mediterranean sunshine, cool off in one of the two pools, or enjoy a stroll into the resort centre. The hotel is located just 50m away from the beach and there are plenty of shops and restaurants less than 1km away.
