Choir Tours to the Rhineland
Beautiful scenery, friendly people and exceptional concert venues combine in this beautiful region. Steeped in history, the Rhineland claims over 200 castles and palaces, an abundance of charming, medieval towns and endless vineyards which welcome groups to sample the locally produced wines.
Rhine steamer cruises and cable car rides allow you to see the region’s breathtaking beauty in style, while a visit to Marksburg Castle provides an insight into the region’s medieval past. Cities in the Rhineland include fascinating Cologne, which boasts excellent shopping, great museums and many riverside bars and cafés serving the local Kölsch beer. Just south of Cologne, Bonn provides visitors with a variety of historic locations including the ever-popular museum occupying the house in which Beethoven was born.
Where to Sing
Florinskirche, Koblenz
St. Florin’s Church offers a warm welcome to all visiting choirs with a sacred or secular repertoire. The church is host to a series of concerts from spring to autumn and its fantastic acoustics are well suited to choral performances with regular audiences always keen to hear a visiting choir.
St. Peter’s Church, Bacharach
Bacharach is a picturesque town on the Rhine which was the setting for Clemens Brentano’s poem about the famous German Landmark, Loreley. Although it has been restored and rebuilt a number of times over the years, inside are many of the original furnishings and items from centuries past. An eye-catching building in the town, the church attracts a good local audience providing an intimate setting for any concert.
Cologne Cathedral
Cologne Cathedral is one of the world’s largest churches and the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe. Choirs can participate in a midday service in the beautiful cathedral in the centre of Cologne and, for exceptional choirs, the opportunity to sing during the Mass service can sometimes be arranged.
Bad Neuenahr
With its unique revolving stage, Bad Neuenahr is a risk free, all-weather venue. Placed at the front of the concert hall, the stage is designed to revolve to face either into the concert hall or out into the stunning gardens, depending on the weather at the time! An incredibly stylish venue, Bad Neuenahr offers a well-attended weekly concert series and a great experience for all groups.
Attracting an Audience
We will place adverts in Local ‘what’s on’ guides, local community event websites, as well as send posters and flyers to a number of venues. We are also more than happy to provide you with some flyers to take with you should you wish to do some extra publicity whilst you are there.
What to Do
With picture postcard scenery found on the banks of the River Rhine, there is no better way to experience the Rhineland’s many attractions than on a river cruise. The hour long cruise leaves St. Goarshausen for Kaub allowing you to marvel at the many castles perched high on the rocky crags and admire the famous Loreley Rock, named after a siren who, as legend has it, bewitched the hearts of sailors as they gazed upon the rock, causing them to crash and sink their ships.
Back on dry land, wind your way up to the historic Marksburg Castle, where fairytale turrets rise out of dense woodland. On your guided tour you’ll hear tales of romantic knights and gossip filled feasts as you venture from the cellar torture chamber to the highest tower.
In Rüdesheim, Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Museum is home to old fairground and circus mechanical instruments which were rescued by Siegfried and range from a room-sized funfair organ to a small music box the size of a sugar cube on which a tiny singing bird perches. Whilst in the town, why not take the Rüdesheim Cable Car up to the Nieder wald monument to enjoy spectacular views over the Rhine.
You can’t visit the area without sampling some of the local wine and there are plenty of opportunities, either at one of the vineyards or in a local castle or cellar. If you time your tour right, you can even attend the famous Rüdesheim Wine Festival in August.
