Cornwall & Devon
Experience the beaches and cliffs of Cornwall’s dramatic coastline as you leave the hustle and bustle of city life behind. Life slows down in the South as you explore this beautiful region. Great, fresh cuisine is in abundance and the opportunity to visit the Eden project and Tate St. Ives or perform in Truro Cathedral should not be missed.
Cardiff
Home to Cardiff Castle and the Millennium Stadium, and close to numerous local beaches, shopping centres and complexes, the capital of Wales provides something for everyone. Theatres, art galleries and museums pepper the capital and it is a great cultural destination for all. Performance venues here include Llandaff Cathedral and St. Basil’s Church in Newport.
Edinburgh
Boasting historic architecture, world-class galleries and museums, some of the best shopping in the UK and fantastic food and drink, Edinburgh is perfect for a UK choir tour. With ghost walks, whiskey tasting and the Royal Yacht Britannia to explore, there’s no time for boredom in this vibrant city. Performances can take place at Canongate Church or St. Giles Cathedral on the Royal Mile.
London
London’s almost limitless variety of things to do and vibrant cultural scene make it a perfect opportunity for a choir tour. Your feet won’t touch the ground during your stay as you choose from such a vast array of options – catch a show in the West End, visit one of the many Royal Palaces, shop for souvenirs in Harrods, see the city from an open-top bus or take an eerily atmospheric ghost walk by night! With prestigious venues such as St. Paul’s and Southwark Cathedral, and community churches available in the week, there is something for all types of choir.
City Breaks
If you prefer the excitement and pace of a city break then we can accommodate your requirements. With so much to see and do in one city we will help you plan your time away effectively, making sure you get plenty of opportunities for those all-important performances. So, whether it’s London, Edinburgh, Cardiff or any other city that takes your fancy, we can help you make the most of your time and enjoy wonderful performances in venues to suit your choir.
Derbyshire Dales
Grand stately homes, intriguing caverns, charming market towns and picturesque villages draw visitors from all over the world to the Peak District and Derbyshire Dales. In October 2011, the recently established, Berkshire based, Incantata ladies’ choir departed for their tour of the Dales, to deliver a weekend of concerts.
Unlike many choirs, for whose members venues such as Derby Cathedral are the dream, Incantata specifically requested an itinerary which would help the group to bond both socially and musically and help them improve their confidence through performances in smaller venues. The Rayburn Concert Tours team set to work, creating a tour combining informal venues and plenty of sightseeing.
Following three successful performances at the Westfield Centre Derby, Derby Market Place and the Great Cave at Peak Cavern in Castleton, the ladies arrived for their afternoon performance at Denby Pottery Visitor Centre. Fran Bridges, Rayburn Tours photographer, was lucky enough to attend the choir’s final performance and here, she describes the experience:
“With the glorious autumn sun flooding the theatre, Sally Chappell energetically directed the ladies as they took to the stage in the demonstration theatre at Denby Pottery Visitor Centre. Performing a variety of songs, from ABBA classics and hits from the popular musical ‘The Sound of Music’ to traditional African songs and plenty in between, the audience was captivated.
Throughout the concert, the choir’s vocal harmonies travelled into the nearby cook shop, enticing passers-by to ‘poke their heads in’ and, upon discovering the source of the music, stepping in, intrigued, to take their seats and watch the ‘show’. Dressed in their uniform dazzling pink shirts, the ladies looked and performed with great confidence and passion and, at the end, received a warm and generous round of applause.”
What they did - Incantata ladies’ choir
Day 1
The choir boarded their coach for Derby, arriving early afternoon. After checking-in to the hotel, it was straight to their first concert by the waterfall in Derby market place. Following this, they wasted no time and walked to the nearby Westfield Shopping Centre for another performance to the passing shoppers. The rest of the day was spent at leisure in the city.
Day 2
After breakfast, the group departed for Castleton and Peak Cavern for their third performance in the great cave at Peak Cavern. After some free time in Castleton, the group headed back to Derby.
Day 3
The final day of their tour and the choir took their coach to Denby Pottery. After touring the pottery, they made their way to the Visitor Centre for their concert. A last look around and the group headed back to Berkshire.
