Choir Tours to Umbria

Although this region often lies in the shadow of its neighbour, Tuscany, we believe that it is a real Italian treasure and can’t be too enthusiastic about it! Off the beaten tourist trail, Umbria is something for the choir that has been everywhere else. A rural region with pretty towns, spectacular landscapes and a selection of fine venues for choirs makes it a delight for all the senses

There is plenty for you to enjoy about Umbria including the fine wine, great food, unspoilt views and acoustically sympathetic venues - so if you’re looking for somewhere new that your choir will remember for a long time, Umbria should be top of the list!

Our favourite venue:
San Francesco Basilica, Assisi.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000, this is the burial place of St. Francis and one of the most important places of Christian pilgrimage in Italy. The Gothic interior of the upper church is a stark contrast to the medieval frescoes which you can see in parts of the upper and lower churches. Your choir can take part in the Mass service in this famous basilica.

Orvieto Duomo

This imposing building offers excellent performance opportunities, though choirs should beware the equally imposing acoustic. A large three manual organ is available and the friendly staff assist with changing facilities. A good tourist audience is the norm here.

San Lorenzo Cathedral, Perugia

Perugia is the capital of Umbria. With an enviable artistic tradition, you should take time to enjoy its two wonderful galleries. The lovely cathedral has its origins in the fourteenth century, but there is a modern four-manual organ which makes performances by visiting choirs especially memorable.

Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral,Spoleto

Helpful clergy and a good audience make performances at Spoleto a real highlight of a choir’s tour. Acoustically sympathetic, the building lends itself best to a cappella performance. Dominating the town, the cathedral provides a rewarding singing experience for performers and listeners alike.

Duomo, Citta’ della Pieve

This charming town is the birthplace of the Renaissance painter Pietro Perugino and boasts what claims to be Italy’s narrowest street. The Cathedral of SS Gervasio & Protasio welcomes choirs to give a concert and for afterwards, local restaurants serve very ample portions for singers hungry after a concert!

Santa Maria Della Consolazione, Todi

A must for any choir. An eleventh century cathedral with a twenty-first century two manual organ, this is an excellent venue for good choirs.

All of our tours are bespoke, therefore the itinerary below is simply an example; the duration, concert venues, leisure excursions and accommodation centre used will be selected to match the requirements of your group. Please contact us to discuss your bespoke itinerary.

Taste the grape

We can arrange personalised wine tasting sessions at one of the local vineyards, which can include an introduction to Orvieto wine and a tasting session including a light lunch. Luxurious evening meals with local wine can also be arranged on special request.

Kisses in Perugia

Perugia has become famous for its chocolate and the locally produced Baci (kisses) should not be missed! The city is also a notable artistic centre of Italy and there are a number of museums and galleries we would recommend you explore, such as the National Gallery of Umbria.

Spoleto Festival

In late June and early July, the town lights up with three weeks of music, dance and drama in the Festival dei Due Mondi (festival of two worlds).

Hotel Villa Luisa, Todi

Choir Tours Hotel Villa Luisa

We recommend the southern Umbrian town of Todi as a base for your tour, as it places you within easy reach of the region’s most enjoyable towns. The Hotel Villa Luisa comes highly recommended by our clients, who have called it an inspired selection. Two kilometres from the centre of town, this hotel lies in spacious gardens and boasts a number of charming features. The breakfast terrace is a firm favourite with our groups and the service is attentive and friendly. Relaxation in the gardens or the swimming pool is often much appreciated after a hard day’s singing, but for those choirs keen to sing even after hours, there is a grand piano on the premises.
