Venice

Venice is one of the world's most stunning cities. It was built gradually in the shallow waters of an Adriatic lagoon by reinforcing the land which only emerged at intervals during the ebb and flow of the tides. Historically, Venice developed as a secure port, wealthy trade centre and a city of astounding architecture whose buildings line the canals which are its 'streets'. Many of Venice's finest buildings face the Grand Canal, where it is possible to cruise along in a gondola or a private water-taxi.
