FAQs about this tour

Find the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.

  • Is the Rhineland perfectly suited for my group of younger students?

The Rhineland is a perfect setting for you and your younger students as you can experience the best of both worlds. Big hitting cities like Cologne and Bonn pack in the hustle and bustle, whereas rural and historic Germany is epitomised in stunning places like Boppard and Burg Eltz Castle.

And when you’re finished for the day, you can stay in a quieter, charming town like Bad Honnef. Really giving you that peace of mind a smaller town offers.

  • Are language lessons always in a classroom?

Not always! Some German language schools may offer activities like a treasure hunt (which is a quiz around an area or the city where questions take students place to place, encouraging them to use their German to interact with people and places).

Combining language learning with a fun, and often, cultural activity, getting your students to the very heart of living and speaking in the Rhineland

  • How long is the trip from Calais to the Rhineland?

It’s usually a 4 and a half to 5 and half hour trip from the port of Calais to some of our most popular places to stay, like DJH Youth Hostel Bonn or DJH Bad Honnef.

Travelling by coach can be a great way of reducing overall costs too.

  • Is our Tour Manager fully DBS (formerly CRB) checked?

Our Tour Managers, Field Study Tutors and History Tour Guides, with UK citizenship, have an enhanced DBS check. Non UK citizenship Tour Managers cannot be checked under the DBS scheme. Rayburn Tours will seek confirmation that Tour Managers are suitable for working with children by liaising with relevant foreign agents and monitoring group feedback.

  • Do you provide risk assessments for hotels?

Rayburn Tours have individual audits which are completed on every hotel/accommodation centre which we use. We are more than happy for you to see this should you wish. Our audits cover fire safety, means of escape and general safety.

  • Are seatbelts provided on foreign coaches?

This depends on the country where you are visiting and their local laws. However, we will always endeavour to use coach companies who use coaches fitted with seatbelts.

  • What does our insurance cover us for?

Our insurance providers offer comprehensive cover to our groups for the duration of their tour and is tailored specifically for schools, with specialist insurance policies for individual tour types. As with any insurance cover, it is vital that you read through the terms and conditions and that you declare any relevant information as requested. Please see our insurance page for further information and to see what is covered. For groups opting to take their own insurance, we highly recommend that you read all inclusions and exclusions prior to departure.
