Rhineland
The beautiful Rhineland region, steeped in history, legend and culture, is a perfect destination to offer your students a varied and exciting language tour experience. Guided tours of Cologne and visits to Marksburg Castle and the Ehrenbreitschein Fortress provide great opportunities for your group to test their newly developed language skills, whilst a cruise down the River Rhine or a day at Phantasialand ensure that an exciting and memorable educational experience is enjoyed by all.
Language Tuition
We have established a relationship with a large private language school located in the centre of Koblenz. Our tours include nine hours of tuition, with 3 hours of lessons each day for 3 days. Class sizes are small, with a maximum of 15 students in each group. The language school provides excellent tuition from German teachers who are happy to cater for the specific language needs of your group.
Cultural Visits
Guided tour of Cologne
The Cologne tourist office provides excellent tours of this attractive cosmopolitan city for school groups. Cologne dates back to Roman times and has since played a vital role in the development of trade and commerce in the Rhineland.
Cologne Cathedral
This huge gothic cathedral with its distinctive twin towers took 600 years to complete and is the most visited attraction in Germany. It is an architectural masterpiece and is based on the cathedrals in Paris, Amiens and Reims. Energetic visitors who climb up the 509 steps of the south tower are rewarded with fantastic panoramic views of the city.
Ehrenbreitschein Fortress & Koblenz
The Ehrenbreitschein Fortress is one of the best preserved fortresses in Europe and is well worth a visit. The fortress towers over the Deutsches Eck, the point where the River Moselle runs into the River Rhine, and boasts an impressive panoramic view. This location gave the fortress a very important strategic position and at the time of completion in 1828 it was considered to be impregnable. A visit to the fortress should be combined with a visit to the 2000 year old town of Koblenz which is positioned across the river from the fortress. The old town is very attractive and boasts many cultural monuments and historic buildings.
Marksburg Castle
This impressive 12th century castle towers over the Rhine and the small town of Braubach. This castle is the best preserved on the Rhine as it was never seriously damaged during warfare. Many artefacts from the middle ages are also exhibited here. Visits to the castle are possible as part of a guided tour, which lasts approximately 50 minutes and takes in the knights’ hall, bedrooms, kitchen and armoury.
The Chocolate Museum in Cologne
This museum has been built like a futuristic ship on the Rheinauhafen peninsula on the left bank of the River Rhine. Take a journey through the 3000 year history of chocolate in this unique and exciting museum. Machines have been moved from a working factory to the museum and visitors can watch the chocolate being made and then taste the results!
Leisure Activities
Cruise on the River Rhine
A river cruise is an enjoyable way to take in the stunning scenery along the banks of the Rhine. It is possible to take a cruise from many of the riverside towns between Koblenz and Rüdesheim. The cruise takes you past many castles, including the magnificent Marksburg Castle, renowned for its fairy-tale design. In addition, you will see vineyards and beautiful towns during the journey and, just south of St. Goarshausen, is the famous Loreley Rock.
Boppard Chairlift Ride & Town Train
This highly recommended excursion is a chairlift ride ascending to the ‘Vierseenblick’, the ‘4 lakes view’, so called because the loops in the River look like four lakes from this view point. There is a café and souvenir shop at the top. The 20-minute ride provides stunning panoramic views of Boppard and the winding River Rhine. The Town Train takes passengers around the town on a sightseeing tour, taking in the parish church of St. Severus, the Carmelite church and the Roman and medieval town walls. The tour lasts 30-35 minutes and departs from the market square, Rheinallee and the chairlift.
Rhein-Mosel Bowling
This ten-pin bowling centre is situated north of Koblenz at the Neukauf shopping centre and is an excellent option for evening entertainment. The centre also offers billiards and a café.
Tauris Leisure Pool
This complex has something for everyone, from slides, waterfalls and wave machines to relaxing saunas and an outdoor pool. This is an ideal afternoon or evening excursion
Phantasialand Theme Park
This popular theme park is situated near the town of Brühl. Attractions include wild water rides, the mountain railway, Viking boats, Cine 2000, Grand Canyon railway and space centre - the world’s largest indoor train. Recent additions to the attraction park include the Mystery Castle, with its tower lift ride and the Scala 3D cinema show of a pirate adventure. There is also a reconstruction of an old Berlin street and various shows which take place throughout each day.
