The border region of the Czech and Slovak Republics, with its sun-dappled vineyards and thriving folk traditions, is famed for the beauty of its landscapes. Slovakia boasts craggy castles, quiet spas and the alpine grandeur of the Tatra Mountains.The charms of the Slovak capital, Bratislava, especially the well-preserved Old Town with its maze of little pedestrian streets lined with cafés, are only just beginning to appeal to tourists, so you will probably be amongst the first to discover them. Further East, the historic Spis region, with its great medieval cathedrals and fortresses, has stunning concert venues aplenty.
