Ski Specific Frequently Asked Questions
Which resort has the best skiing?
All the resorts we offer have been specially selected because of their suitability for school groups and their ability to offer excellent all season snow conditions. They all have excellent slope progression as well as a range of terrain to keep skiers of different abilities happy.
One differences between the resorts is the kilometres of piste. Many people focus on this as the 'be all and end all', however, it is worth remembering that due to lesson length and lunch, skiers will only be able to travel approximately one hour from the lesson start point at any time.
For most beginner and intermediate groups this means that any resorts offering 40km or over are more than enough for one week.
Pre – Christmas and Easter Skiing
We recognise that December and Easter are excellent times to ski, with quieter pistes, lower prices, smaller lift queues and milder temperatures. All our resorts have been chosen due to their ability to cater for season-long skiing and all offer high altitude skiing backed up with excellent artificial snow coverage.
Which hotel will suit my group?
The accommodation section on each resort page provides full details of each hotel available, including information about its facilities and the number of beds available.
For hotels with a small capacity, there may be the option for your group to book out the hotel. Alternatively, larger hotels are more likely to have more facilities including meeting rooms, games rooms, swimming pools and saunas. Finally, the location from the resort centre may be important but if there is a slight walk to the lift, in most cases we will be able to arrange for piste side storage of skis and boots.
What else should I be looking for in a resort?
Choosing the right resort should be governed by two main criteria; the skiing and the resort facilities. If the group has younger children or a majority of beginner skiers then a large ski area isn’t necessary. However, for advanced skiers, the opportunity to ski more pistes will be important.
Younger groups will not need a wide-ranging après program and lots of events can be organised in or near to the hotel including those provided in the complimentary après ski pack. However, adult groups and schools with older children will want to organise some evenings out and for après ski events to be in abundance.
To see how resorts compare, see the details on the front page of each resort section.
What about après events?
We supply a basic après package to all groups which includes ideas and materials to run a number of in-house après activities including quiz nights, games nights and bingo nights. However we also offer an extensive list of additional après ski events in each resort which can be included in your package for a small supplement if you wish. For more details please see the information on the individual resort pages.
So what’s included in the price?
Our ethos is based around flexibility and we are happy to tailor make each groups trip so you have the perfect package for your group. However, as a starting point we would automatically include transport, full board accommodation, insurance, lift pass, ski equipment hire, a Rayburn Tours courier and 24 hours of lessons (please see Ski Trip Inclusions for more details). From there it is up to you how we tailor make your trip to your group’s individual requirements.
One element that is present in all our trip is the Rayburn service. We pride ourselves on the level of care attention we offer to our clients and we believe our client service is second to none.
How many free places can I have?
Our free place policy is adaptable but in general, one staff place is available per seven paying passengers for all groups travelling in low season dates. The ratio changes to one free place per eight paying passengers in mid season dates and one in ten in high season dates.
Which lift pass is included in the price?
In general, our packages include the full area lift pass for the resort you are staying in. If other types of lift pass are available which cover multiple areas we will make you aware of this and include whichever you prefer.
What about ski equipment?
Skis, boots and poles are included as standard. In some Italian resorts, it is now a legal requirement for all children age 18 or under to wear helmets. In addition, many Austrian and Italian resorts require all children up to the age of 14 to wear helmets. We therefore include the cost of helmets in all our ski quotes.
Which ski schools do you use?
Rayburn Ski has close, established links with all the ski schools in the resorts we offer. In all instances we can guarantee highly qualified, English speaking ski instructors who will make sure each pupil gets the most out of their time on the slopes.
So why chose Rayburn?
We are school travel specialists and as such we have only selected resorts that we believe offer the right ingredients for a school ski trip. The Rayburn Service ensures that we will support you from start to finish and as an independent company we have not lost our focus on treating every group individually, providing them with tailor made trips in an honest and principled manner.
