First World War helmets and Second World War gas masks

Last updated: Jan 30th, 2019

News update:

You may have seen in the news today an article about First World War helmets and Second World War gas masks containing asbestos. Over the next couple of weeks, I will be speaking to museums here and abroad that we recommend on our tours, to find out if these artefacts in their collections have been checked and made safe.

Our team will advise that any unsafe items in handling collections should be withdrawn until it is declared that they are clear of risk. We would not ask any organisation to destroy these precious artefacts, just to make them safe or to put them behind glass.

Watch this space for updates.
