Rayburn Tours’ Best Pick of 2015 Destinations for Youth Ensembles

Last updated: Jan 30th, 2019

30. Concert in Lagolo

2015 has seen yet more youth ensembles journey to exciting destinations to blow their brass, hit their hi-hats and sing their socks off!

With an exciting menu of concert tour destinations, choosing just one is no easy task so we’ve gathered up a few of this year’s best-sellers to give you a good starting point.

Our most popular destination this year is our close to home option, Belgium, offering an array of venues to suit every ensemble’s requirements: from coastal bandstands and bustling market squares to historical landmarks and prestigious churches, there’s a perfect stage for every ensemble in Belgium’s fairytale-esque cities. A trip to Ypres is a truly unforgettable way to commemorate the WWI Centenary; the highlight for many groups travelling to Belgium is the chance to participate in the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate.

Runners up
In joint second place, we have the stunning city of Venice and the lively centre of Paris. These beautiful cities offer the chance to perform in some of the world’s most renowned venues, like St Mark’s Basilica and Notre Dame Cathedral.

St Joseph’s School Youth Music Group, who recently travelled to Venice to perform in the Basilica, were overwhelmed by the whole experience: ‘singing in such an awe-inspiring building with such an amazing acoustic is something that the choir will remember for the rest of their lives. It was a very emotional experience for every single one of them’ – Mrs Elisabeth Mann, St Joseph’s School Youth Music Group.

Cosy and quaint
If scenic and rural is more your thing, another popular destination this year is The Rhineland. With a warm welcome from the locals, ensembles can perform in the hub of town centres or in spectacular Gothic cathedrals.

The more the merrier
Why settle for one when you can have four? Our ‘Four Countries’ tour offers youth ensembles a fuller European experience, giving them the opportunity to perform in Germany, Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg all in one trip! It’s a great way for young people to see a range of cultures and get a taste of four neighbouring countries whilst performing at an exciting mix of venues.

The Robert Symth Academy recently embarked on the ‘Four Countries’ trip and had a ‘fantastic time’. ‘The Four Countries tour more than lived up to our expectations…we visited some lovely places: Aachen, Maastricht and Luxembourg, and the students really enjoyed seeing these somewhat less well-known cities which had lots of history, culture and great venues to offer. I would highly recommend the Four Countries tour to other music groups.’

A jolly bunch

Somewhere sunny
Always a hit with youth ensembles, our picture-perfect Italy destinations give ensembles the chance to perform ‘al fresco’, amid the luscious Italian countryside of Tuscany or overlooking breath-taking Lake Garda.

Another popular choice for sunshine-lovers is the Spanish region of Costa Brava where performances will be complimented with sun, sea and sand. Groups can perform on seaside promenades, in bustling market squares or in the shadows of castle ruins.

Our star pick
A new entry for 2014-15, and one of the team’s favourite destinations, is Malta. If you fancy a bit of sun to go with your repertoire, Malta’s clear blue waters and rolling countryside provide an idyllic backdrop for a truly memorable performance. With beautiful surroundings and a remarkable history, Malta ticks all the boxes. Ask us about Malta’s annual fiesta and how your ensemble can get involved!
