2017: the sport story so far

Last updated: Apr 18th, 2024

2017 has got off to a great sporting start with groups jetting off around the globe to up their game…

At Rayburn Tours, we’re all about fueling young people’s passion for sport and we are never happier than when our groups return home elated by their experiences and beaming with pride – there’s been a lot of that so far this year and we think that’s something to shout about!

From football in New York to netball in Australia, 2017 is shaping up to be a year of exciting sports stories…

Back in April, Canon Slade School went on a big sports tour to the Big Apple, with an itinerary that offered them the best possible sporting experience of New York. On top of competitive fixtures with local football teams, the group seized the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in America’s sporting world.

On their first full day in New York, the group soaked up the electric atmosphere at a New York Mets v Miami Marlins baseball match – not a bad start to their sports tour! If day one was all about baseball, day two was basketball through and through with a Brooklyn Nets v Chicago Bulls match!

Taking a breather from the sporting action, the group explored all the must-visits of the city from Rockefeller Centre to Times Square, enjoying a fully-rounded and varied itinerary. The feedback from party leader, Owen Roberts, sums up the group’s experience:

Perfect! Well organised, thoroughly planned itinerary covering everything New York has to offer! Another fantastic tour! Feedback from parents and students was amazing, again! Priceless experiences and lifelong memories.

The Royal Masonic School opted for hotter climates this April on a 15-day sports tour to Australia where they toured from the Gold Coast through to Brisbane, Cairns and Sydney, with a stopover in Singapore on the way home.

Full days of netball and hockey fixtures were combined with Great Barrier Reef diving, sightseeing in Sydney, a day trip to the Blue Mountains National Park, a night safari in Singapore and so much more! After an action-packed two weeks, Party Leader, Elisabeth Booth, summed up the experience as:

Trip of a lifetime for many of the girls!
