The start of the Premier League season and our league predictor!

Last updated: Aug 9th, 2019

Yesterday saw the closure of the transfer window, marking the end to a summer of wheeling’s and dealings for football clubs across the UK. Premier League clubs are now focused on the opening weekend of Premiership games, which will set the tone for the start of the new season.

Teams up and down the table have strengthened. Newcastle have broken their transfer record, Aston Villa have invested heavily and Arsenal have stretched their budget to accommodate a range of new signings. Everyone is now prepared for what looks to be another incredible season in the world’s most competitive football league.

Liverpool start proceedings this evening, hosting Norwich at Anfield. They will be hoping to re-create their incredible form last season which saw them narrowly lose out on the league trophy. As newcomers to the league, Norwich’s aim will unfortunately be to minimise damage in their return. Title-holders Manchester City start their journey away at West Ham tomorrow. Following a few strong additions to the squad, the title looks to be theirs to lose once more.

Super Sunday involves a big clash between Manchester United and Chelsea. This will be a key indicator as to who will scrape a place in the top 4 this year, with both teams hoping to improve on last season’s performances. The world’s most expensive defender, Harry Maguire, will be hoping to make his debut against Chelsea where Frank Lampard makes his competitive debut in charge.

The first weekend is always difficult to predict as teams begin to settle in and find their feet following the summer break. Rising to the challenge, the Rayburn Tours staff have entered our annual predictor challenge, giving their thoughts on the winners and losers of the 19/20 Premier League season.
