The Pitons

The Pitons

The Pitons are two volcanic plugs, or peaks of hardened magma, that are the second and third highest mountains in St Lucia, each rising more than 700 m directly from the sea!

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, they are joined by the Piton Mitan ridge, which offers stunning views across the bay.

The two Pitons are the most photographed landmark on St Lucia, proving popular with tourists who want to hike to the summit. The Gros Piton is the easier to climb, with established tours which provide transport to the small welcome centre.

Professional guides must be used, but the climb only takes approximately two hours and does not require any experience, so is suitable for most tourists who want to be rewarded with spectacular views.
