A Tour of Andorra la Vella by Foot

Last updated: Apr 4th, 2019

Nestled in the country’s central, green valley, Andorra la Vella is your gateway to the rugged mountains of the Andorran Pyrenees. At an altitude of 1,050 metres, it’s Europe’s loftiest capital and a favourite with skiers seeking high-altitude trails and sweeping panoramas. Characterised by its tax-free shopping, famous spa complex and exceptional skiing, it’s no wonder why it’s a firm favourite with our ski groups.

We set out on foot to discover just what makes the area so perfect for our groups…

Pedestrianised streets

As soon as you leave out the back exit of Hotel Panorama , you’re greeted by the main pedestrianised streets of Andorra la Vella. Not only is the area extremely safe, it’s also a stone’s throw away from the hotel.

Many of our groups allow their pupils to enjoy some free time after the ski day ends, giving them the chance to explore the shops and cafes on offer. There’s also a McDonalds within walking distance, which will keep even the most fussy of eaters happy!

Tax-free shopping

The tax-free shopping scene is one of the main draws of Andorra la Vella, allowing you to snap up a cheaper deal on items such as fragrances, food and electrical items. Always handy for buying gifts or simply treating yourself.

Après options

The beauty of basing groups in the Andorra la Vella area is that all our après options are accessible by foot. From bowling at Club Energy to pizza nights at La Tagliatella, your feet will take you there! But for those evenings when you just want to stay indoors, our favourite Hotel Panorama hosts movie nights and quizzes inside the hotel itself.

Statues and art

If there’s one thing that Andorrans love, it’s a statue! Andorra la Vella is jam-packed with artwork, statues and monuments – we counted 5 Micky Mouse structures alone as we walked around the town. Our favourite piece of art is the Andorra la Vella Bridge, with its fast-running, natural stream below.

Selfie opportunities

One of my favourite things about Andorra la Vella is its natural beauty. No matter where you turn, you’re greeted by stunning views of the mountains. Our best advice is to pick up a camera and get exploring yourself – you won’t be disappointed!
