RESORT OF THE WEEK: Axamer-Lizum, Austria

Last updated: Jan 30th, 2019

According to the School Travel Forum, Austria is the number one destination in the UK school ski market. Want to know why? Read on to find out!

Austria is a firm favourite as it consistently provides excellent snow conditions, friendly skiers and hosts lots of exciting après-ski activities. Being famous for its beautiful mountainside resort towns and interlinked ski areas, Austria provides miles of terrain for you to explore. Plus, with resorts ranging from 25km to 668km, there really is an option to suit all type of skier.

Located just outside of Innbruck, Axamer-Lizum is a brilliant resort which encompasses all of Austria’s finest parts. Having hosted the alpine events of the 1964 and 1976 Winter Games, the quality of skiing is absolutely first class, while it is one of nine resorts belonging to the ski carousel Olympia SkiWorld Innsbruck – hosting 292km of skiable terrain! In addition, the small, self-contained village provides piste-side hotels and 41km of skiing, designed to allow both beginner progression and offer more challenging terrain to the advanced skier.

The region’s capital of Innsbruck is just twenty minutes away, meaning that, alongside the neighbouring town of Axams, there are a fantastic range of activities for groups to enjoy. Axams, for instance, is a great location for a meal out, or an evening of fun at the local swimming pool. Then, at Innsbruck, groups can enjoy activities such as ice skating, bowling, or a spot of sightseeing.

But that’s not all! If your group’s simply after a quiet night in, look no further. Our hotels can provide you with a private après venue to host your in house après activities – without even stepping out of the hotel!
