Team Tarvisio – While The Snow’s Been Falling, The Camera’s Been Rolling

Last updated: Jun 4th, 2024

Lights, camera, ski! Rayburn’s Dan has packed his bags, donned his woolly hat and hit the Tarvisian slopes – all with a film crew! Joining forces with the University of Derby’s camera-hungry film students and their lecturer, Team Tarvisio Film Squad are on a mission to follow our ski groups out in resort and capture the highs, lows and everything in between.

While the snow’s been falling, the camera’s been rolling! Here’s Dan to fill us in on the first few days filming…

It’s been a busy few days for Team Tarvisio. After driving from Derby to Stansted, flying direct to Trieste and commuting 2 hours from the airport, we finally arrived in Tarvisio.

While we turned up in pitch blackness, the beauty of the resort still shone through, with thick snow lining the pavements and hotel roofs. After a quick catch up with Resort Manager, Glenn, over a traditional Italian meal of pasta and rabbit (something hearty to warm us up!), we settled down for the night. Tomorrow would bring a full day of filming!

Views from my balcony at Hotel Il Cervo aren’t too shabby!

We woke up bright and early to capture the students tucking in to their continental breakfast, all in the stunning surroundings of Hotel Il Cervo. After glugging down fresh fruit juice and strong coffee, we made our way to the ski fit area where the students would be issued their ski boots, skis and helmets for the duration of the trip.

Cameras still rolling, we conducted some quick interviews (with those who were willing!), where the girls from Glenlola Collegiate School shared their excitement and aims for the ski days ahead. You could literally see the excitement in their faces as they left the hotel and made their way down to the ski school to be met by their instructors. Buzzing isn’t the word for it!

All prepped and raring to go

We weren’t going to let this opportunity slip! A picture is worth a thousand words and all that. We joined them on their journey and made the most of every moment, even conducting a makeshift interview while riding the magic carpet ski lift.

As the girls progressed throughout the day, we decided to have a wander around Tarvisio ourselves and took a gondola up to the picturesque old chapel area. Words really cannot do this area justice.

Heading back to the group, it wasn’t time to go inside yet. Oh no, a good dose of après fun was next. Bring on the sledging! I’m not sure who enjoyed it more, the teachers or the pupils. We got some great footage as a mass snowball fight broke about amongst the the hierarchy – I think teachers might have slightly edged it!

All in all, it’s been a great couple of days in Tarvisio and we can’t wait to capture some more great footage in the coming days. Stay tuned!
