My first ever ski trip to Andorra

Last updated: Jan 30th, 2019

This was my first ever ski trip to Andorra and I instantly fell in love with the ski area of Vallnord.

Two of the ski resorts in Vallnord, Arinsal and Pal, offer a great variety of skiing and snowboarding for beginners and intermediates, with some lovely runs through the trees located in Pal and the most amazing views both from the top and as you ski down the slopes.

Across these two ski resorts you have 7 green (learner) runs, 14 blue runs (beginner), 17 red runs (intermediate) and 4 black runs (advanced), so a fantastic mix for all abilities. On top of this the slopes are very well connected (particularly in Pal) and it is very easy to ski out and meet up with your friends or join other members of your group on the slopes.

My time was spent in the resort of Pal and it was a treat to ski some of the red intermediate runs with just a handful of other skiers, a great opportunity to ski and enjoy the whole slope to ourselves!

The two resorts of Pal and Arinsal are linked by a 50 person cable car, however be aware that the usual closing time of the cable car is 4.15pm. Therefore, if you miss the last one you would need to ski back to the base of either Arinsal or Pal (depending on where you are) and then take the ski bus back to Arinsal or La Massana, so it is best to plan tour timings carefully!

There is another area of Vallnord called Ordino-Arcalis which is a 30 minute free ski bus ride away from Arinsal and La Massana (Pal). I did not visit this area however, Arcalis is well known for offering skiing and snowboarding of all levels, but is particularly popular with those looking for the adrenalin filled ‘freeride’ and ‘off piste’ skier.

Following an amazing day of skiing, it’s not time to stop yet, as there are so many different ‘Après Ski’ activities to enjoy!

Below is a taste of some of the après activities the various groups enjoyed throughout the week:

I thought the above was amazing in itself, however, the trip was made even more special by seeing how well the students develop their skiing throughout the week, and with so many smiles on their faces, it is clear to see they are loving the whole experience of their ski trip.

A quote from a student that made my week and melted my heart, was when we were walking back to the gondola at the end of the day and she said to me:

“Miss, today has been the most amazing experience I have ever had!”

Quote from student

This is what makes me happy and proud of what we provide here at Rayburn Tours, special experiences which the children will remember for a life time.
