From Kenya to the UK – Woodcreek School’s Football Tour

Last updated: Aug 7th, 2026

In July 2026, Woodcreek School travelled from Kiambu County, Kenya, to the UK for an unforgettable school football tour. Led by Party Leader Erasmus Wahome, the students had the opportunity to compete against UK opposition, train with professional coaches, and visit some of the country’s most well-known sporting venues and attractions.

Designed to inspire young athletes both on and off the pitch, the tour demonstrated how sport can bring people together across continents, broaden cultural understanding, and create lasting memories.

A Tour Designed Around Sport and Discovery

The operations team at Rayburn Tours carefully designed the schools itinerary to provide the perfect balance of competition, coaching and sightseeing. Alongside a programme of football fixtures against UK opposition, the group took part in professional coaching sessions with the West Ham United Foundation and Clarets in the Community at Burnley FC. Students also enjoyed behind-the-scenes visits to some of England’s most iconic football stadiums, including Chelsea FC and Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.

Away from the pitch, the group enjoyed a well-earned day at Alton Towers Resort, giving students the opportunity to relax, celebrate their achievements, and spend time together.

Reflecting on the tour, Party Leader Erasmus Wahome said:

“Our visit to Alton Towers Theme Park was one of the highlights of the trip. The students had an incredible time enjoying the wide variety of rides and attractions, making it a fun and exciting experience for everyone. It provided a perfect opportunity to relax, bond as a group, and create lasting memories together.”

The itinerary was tailor-made to help students develop their football skills, experience different sporting environments, and immerse themselves in British culture, ensuring the tour delivered lasting benefits both on and off the pitch.

Learning Through Competition

One of the most rewarding aspects of the tour was the opportunity to compete against local teams. These fixtures gave Woodcreek School’s students first-hand experience of how young athletes in another country train, communicate and play, while also encouraging cultural exchange through sport.

Reflecting on the experience, Party Leader Erasmus Wahome said:

“We truly appreciated the warm welcome we received from the players, parents, and Silvia (Tour Representative.) Their friendliness and hospitality made the experience enjoyable and memorable for everyone. Our team thoroughly enjoyed the match and gained a better understanding of the important role community clubs play in developing young players, fostering teamwork, and bringing people together through sport.”

Professional Coaching to Inspire Future Development

Professional coaching sessions were another major highlight of the tour. Sessions delivered by the West Ham United Foundation and Clarets in the Community challenged students to develop their technical ability while exposing them to new coaching methods, tactical approaches and training environments.

The coaches created an engaging and supportive atmosphere that encouraged every player to build confidence, refine their skills and gain valuable insights into professional football development programmes.

The impact of these sessions extended well beyond the tour itself. Woodcreek School plans to build on everything the students learned by incorporating new ideas and techniques into their training back in Kenya. Reflecting on the lasting value of the experience, Party Leader Erasmus Wahome said:

The student had the chance to experience new or related skills, and all will be integrated into our school programme to ensure they have a lasting impact on both the participants and the wider school community.”

Memories Beyond the Pitch

Whilst playing football was at the heart of the tour, some of the most memorable moments came away from the pitch.

For many students, visiting the Etihad Stadium and Chelsea Football Club was a dream come true. Exploring world-famous stadiums gave these aspiring young footballers a unique insight into the professional game, inspiring them to continue pursuing their own ambitions both on and off the pitch.

When talking about their visit to Stamford Bridge, home to Chelsea Football Club, Erasmus explained:

Visiting the stadium was a truly unforgettable experience and a dream come true for many of our students. For the football fans in particular, it was a fantastic moment to see such an iconic venue up close, creating memories that they will cherish for years to come”

A Smoothly Organised Experience

From the initial planning stages through to the final day of the tour, ensuring a smooth and memorable experience was a key priority. Erasmus praised the organisation of the itinerary and the support provided throughout the trip, describing the tour as exceptionally well planned and professionally delivered.

He also highlighted the warmth and hospitality shown by everyone the students met during their time in the UK, from opposition teams and coaches to members of the local community. This welcoming environment helped the students feel valued and created a positive cultural exchange throughout the tour.

Reflecting on the overall experience, Erasmus said:

“Very accommodating, approachable, and incredibly helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed the matches and left feeling happy and fulfilled. We especially appreciated the warmth and hospitality of the local community, which made the experience even more memorable.”

The strong organisation, dedicated support and positive relationships built with Rayburn Tours ensured that Woodcreek School’s UK football experience was both successful and meaningful, leaving students with valuable memories and experiences to carry forward.

Lasting Impact

For Woodcreek School, the tour represented far more than football. It was an opportunity to broaden horizons, build confidence and provide students with experiences that many had once only imagined.

Reflecting on the importance of international sports tours, Erasmus captured the purpose of the journey in a simple but powerful message:

“It is about giving young stars the chance to experience their dreams.”

The lessons, memories and inspiration gained during the tour will now be shared with the wider school community in Kenya. By bringing back new ideas, experiences and motivation, the students will help inspire future generations and contribute to the continued growth of Woodcreek School’s sporting programme.
