Rock Choir’s Festive Belgium Tour

Last updated: Nov 24th, 2025

“Every choir should tour! Our choir experienced best time while travelling away and performing together” Rock Choirs Festive Belgium Music Tour!

120 Rock Choir singers from across Greater Manchester came together to share their passion for music, performing to brand-new audiences in Belgium. Over a December weekend, they gave four concerts across the cities of Ghent and Brugges, entertaining the crowds with a repertoire of popular songs. So much so that a proposal took place on the first performance, one of the highlights of the tour!

Xander Jaymes, leader of Rock Choir Greater Manchester from Middleton, chose to travel during the Christmas period to immerse his group into the festive spirit, spreading the joy of music and creating lifelong memories members will cherish.

Why did you choose to tour?

“The whole experience made me want to come on the tour, singing with all the other Rockies in special places and doing something totally different to what we’ve done before. It’s fabulous being part of Rock Choir, we’re one big, huge happy family, who are sociable, stand by each other and all have such a fabulous time doing what we do”

Gill, Rock Choir Member

Belgium offers members experiences that will last in their memories for a lifetime, performing in beautiful venues across the country and gathering appreciative audiences along the way

“Every choir should tour! Our choir experienced best time while travelling away and performing together. They’ve made new friendships, strengthened existing ones, while discovering a new culture, and performing to international audiences.”

A Look into the Itinerary

Day 1

The tour got off to a start with a travel day, as Rock Choir made their way through Belgium, stopping in Kortrijk to visit the Christmas Marketa welcome chance to stretch their legs after a long journey. From there, the group headed to Flanders Lodge, where they spent the evening settling in and recharging ahead of a weekend full of music!

Day 2

The first full day of Rock Choir’s concert tour! A full day in Ghent with three concerts awaited. Our Marketing team arrived early to meet the group off the coach. After introductions, we all made our way to Our Lady of St Peter’s Church for the first concert of the day – a spectacular venue in a quaint square, where the sound of music from the church bursts into the open air. Excitement was building in the group: lots of selfies, smiles, and a flood of Santa hats! The concert began, and the sound of Rock Choir’s voices bounced off the walls, attracting passersby to sit and watch, creating special moments (including a proposal in the audience!). A successful first performance.

The Santa hats filled the streets of Ghent like a river, following the scent of mulled wine and gingerbread as they made their way to the festive Christmas Market for food.

The next concert took place at Bisdomplein, where the heavens opened; however, Rock Choir’s performance lifted the mood of the public and had everyone singing and dancing in the rain.

As the sun set and the Christmas lights came on, Rock Choir made their way to Kouter Markt, a market square filled with Christmas trees ready for the festive season. As Rock Choir began their performance in front of the sparkling bandstand, members of the public danced behind them, singing and clapping along to popular songs. Some audience members attended all three concerts!

A successful day concluded with an evening winding down at Ypres Christmas Market.

Day 3

The final full day of Rock Choir’s festive concert tour was spent visiting the fairytale city of Bruges, where canals wind through the streets, horse-drawn carriages traverse the cobbled pathways, the smell of Belgian chocolate drifts from quaint shops, and the atmospheric Christmas Market takes centre stage in front of the famous Belfry. The group had free time to explore, enjoy, and soak up the festive atmosphere.

The last concert of the tour took place in St Walburga’s Church, and what a finale it was! Rock Choir’s voices drew people from the streets, culminating in a standing ovation to mark the end of the tour – a concert that became a highlight for members of the choir.

At the end of the day, we waved goodbye to our friends, having been gifted a Santa hat to commemorate becoming a fellow Rockie.

This was a tour none of us will ever forget.

Why Belgium?

Belgium is a popular destination for those travelling for a concert tour. It’s a close to home option that offers the opportunity to perform in a variety of different cities. For example, your group could visit Brussels, Bruges, Ghent, Ypres and Antwerp all in one tour!

As Belgium is nearby, it’s a great location to travel by coach to, helping reduce costs for members attending the tour. Travelling by coach is also beneficial for larger groups and makes transporting instruments easier.

Belgium is also a destination rich in history, so as well as travelling for music, members can explore their family’s past and have the opportunity to pay their respects.

What does it mean to be part of Rock Choir?

During the performances we noticed an incredible atmosphere filled with joy, love and a genuine sense of community. The energy was infectious amongst the performers and audience, creating a space where everyone felt connected through music.

We had the opportunity to speak with Jessie, a dedicated member of the soprano section in Rock choir, who shared her enthusiasm and passion for being part of the group.

“To be a part of Rock Choir it means that I get to be in my happy place and I get to do the one thing I love the most in all the world, I’ve sang since I was age 5 in choirs, and this is everything that brings me happiness. It’s the one thing every week where I get to come and spend time with lots of lovely people, make friends and do what I love!”

Reuniting

In March, we had the pleasure of reuniting with Xander and his fellow Rock Choir members during one of their rehearsals. It was an amazing opportunity to reminisce about our unforgettable trip and catch up on everything they’ve been doing since then.

Everyone has been buzzing, and the bond has been like no other, there’s a different atmosphere in the group which has been lovely, it’s like a closer family.”

What’s next for Rock Choir Greater Manchester?

“We’ve got a big show this year at the NEC for Christmas, but the next tour will be bigger and I want to go to Italy, no idea where yet, but definitely Italy!”
