Music has a meaningful aspect to the lifestyle of Berlin. Not only is it a form of entertainment, but an artistic movement of cultural identity and expressionism- an important element to life in the city.

The streets are filled with sound waves travelling and attracting you to a variety of performers all day and night. You could be sat in the local eateries listening to artists making their debut, passing talented performers in plaza squares and city gardens, or even finding opera singers fill the U-Bahn stations with the sound of classical music. Can you imagine the acoustics! The city is a global music hub. Classical vs Opera

Classical and Opera are some of the many genres Berlin is famous for. With magnificent concerts across the churches, cathedrals and opera houses you will be spoilt for choice to see an evening concert. The best venues with the best acoustics, you’re bound to feel the hairs raise through the sound of music.

 

Jazz it up!

Visiting a jazz club with a live band improvising is one for the bucket list! Try something new and relax with a drink while watching the incredible talent of improvisation between band members. Your appreciation for jazz will be a whole new level!

 

Punk Rock

A political musical movement that helped with the fall of the Berlin wall. Youths would make the punk rock scene alive, with festivals, underground shows, and secret concerts based around the city. To this day the punk energy is still at an all time high. A scene which tourists are attracted to!

 

Techno

The techno movement has created Berlins personality ever since the 1980’s after the fall of the wall. It’s attracted the younger generation to continue to party until the early hours of the morning in nightclubs booming with energy from the bass!

The Impact of David Bowie

Known for the residence of the one and only David Bowie, you can follow in the footsteps of the classic rock star and immerse into the world of innovation, revelation and talent. Bowie moved to Berlin after being attracted to the bustling music scene which sparked his inspiration to create world famous albums “Heroes”, “Lodger” and “Low”. To this day tourists can take a musical walking tour through the city and visit the iconic Hansa Studios where Bowie recorded his albums, along with visiting historic landmarks including the Reichstag, a political backdrop for a concert on the west side of Berlin in 1987 that changed history!

 

The Fall of The Wall

Music plays a huge part in the history of Berlin, especially during the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. It has become an important symbol of the union between the East and West districts of the capital city. After a long 28 years of separation, celebrations were called for, singing, dancing, festivals, concerts, you name it. It was party central! Berlin had changed forever overnight, and it was a start of a new era. With music becoming an important aspect to the culture, with it becoming the heart of connecting a divided city together once again.
