The Grammar School Nicosia Case Study: Bringing Learning to Life Across Europe

Last updated: Aug 27th, 2026

For The Grammar School Nicosia in Cyprus, educational travel is about giving students the opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom and experience their subjects in the real world.

Over the years, the school has travelled with Rayburn Tours on a wide range of educational trips across Europe, with Educational Trips Coordinator and party leader, Vasso Georgiades, having now travelled with us on nine trips.

From exploring the Swiss Alps and visiting world-leading scientific facilities to discovering the political and cultural landmarks of London, each trip has been carefully designed around the school’s curriculum, bringing together multiple subject areas and creating experiences that students can take with them long after returning home.

From Classroom Learning to Real-World Experiences

Working closely with Vasso and The Grammar School Nicosia, our team has developed bespoke itineraries that combine curriculum-focused learning with opportunities for students to broaden their horizons, develop independence and experience new cultures.

One standout example was the school’s trip to Switzerland, which brought together Geography, Economics and Physics within one itinerary.

Students explored the geography of the Swiss Alps, gained insight into the world of international banking and visited a particle accelerator facility, seeing first-hand how the concepts they study in the classroom are applied in the real world.

Following the success of their Switzerland experience, the school travelled with Rayburn Tours to London on another cross-curricular trip. By bringing together different subject areas, the itinerary allowed students to make connections between their studies while experiencing some of the UK’s most significant cultural, political and historical landmarks.

For Vasso, it is this combination of academic and personal development that makes educational travel so valuable:

It’s an opportunity for students to gain experience of a combination of topics, stimulate motivation, broaden horizons, finalise topics to take for their university degree, gain knowledge about other subjects they may not know about and see real-world examples of subjects they’re studying.

But the impact of these trips extends beyond the curriculum. Vasso also highlighted the social and personal development she has seen in students throughout their travels:

Educationally, it stimulated interest with real-world examples that were part of the curriculum. Socially, the bonding was fantastic – with students coming out of their shell, showing independence – and they’ll carry those memories for the rest of their life.

Nine Trips and a Partnership Built on Trust

The Grammar School Nicosia’s continued relationship with Rayburn Tours reflects the close partnership that has developed between the school and the school travel operator.

Vasso has now travelled with Rayburn Tours on nine separate educational trips, working closely with Key Account Manager Lauren Evans to turn ideas and curriculum objectives into memorable itineraries.

Lauren has worked with Vasso and The Grammar School Nicosia for the past seven years:

I’ve had the pleasure of working with my valued client, The Grammar School Nicosia, and Vasso for the past seven years. Our many phone conversations have not only strengthened our working relationship, but have also helped us maintain clear communication and ensure we consistently deliver tours that meet the school’s requirements – and they always leave me smiling!”

Lauren Evans, Key Account Manager

The process usually begins with Vasso sharing an initial concept, a destination in mind and the ambition to incorporate three or four subject areas into one trip. From there, Lauren works alongside the Rayburn Tours team to develop a bespoke itinerary that brings those ideas together.

Over the years, this approach has resulted in a diverse range of cross-curricular experiences – from Italy, combining Physics, Geography and Economics, to Cornwall, where Biology, Geography and STEM came together.

As an international school based in Cyprus, organising educational travel also comes with its own logistical considerations, particularly when it comes to flights. However, the close relationship between Vasso and the Rayburn Tours team allows these challenges to be approached collaboratively.
