Alford Academy’s School Language Trip to Paris

Last updated: Jun 17th, 2026

Bringing Language Learning to Life

For Alford Academy, a language trip to Paris offered pupils the chance to step beyond the classroom and experience French language and culture firsthand. From navigating a busy international airport to ordering food in local cafés, pupils were able to develop confidence in their language abilities and gain valuable life skills throughout the trip.

Memorable Moments in Paris

The trip was filled with memorable experiences that brought French culture to life. They explored some of  Paris’ most iconic locations, such as the Arc de Triomphe, Sacré-Coeur, and of course the Eiffel Tower! Students also enjoyed the magic of Disneyland Paris, taking in all the wonderful sights, sound and smells the park had to offer.

Was there a moment during the trip where you thought, “this is exactly why we did this”?

There were many moments like this. When you see them cope as we successfully navigate our way through the airport – especially with first time flyers. When they are smiling and laughing when we are eating together, sharing stories. When they are willing to accept the freedom to navigate a little bit of the city, the zoo and Disney independently.

What Did Their Itinerary Look Like?

  • Day 1: The adventure began once the group departed from Glasgow and flew to Paris, ready to begin an exciting five-day adventure.
  • Day 2: The group enjoyed a guided tour of the Stade de France, followed by a visit to the Fragonard Musée du Parfum. Then they explored the beautiful Petit Palais before taking a scenic cruise along the River Seine. The day continued with stunning views of the Eiffel Tower from the Jardins du Trocadéro, followed by a visit to the Arc de Triomphe and an evening meal.
  • Day 3: The third day was spent experiencing the magic and excitement of Disneyland Paris.
  • Day 4: The students visited the magnificent Basilique du Sacré-Cœur before exploring the diverse wildlife at the Parc Zoologique de Paris.
  • Day 5: The group departed from Paris and travelled back home, bringing a memorable trip to a close.

Overcoming an Unexpected Challenge

While the trip was a great success, it also demonstrated the importance of having an experienced tour partner when unexpected situations arise.

Shortly before departure, the group’s hotel booking was unexpectedly cancelled, requiring significant changes to accommodation, transport arrangements, and elements of the itinerary. What could have been a major source of stress for staff was quickly resolved thanks to the support of the Rayburn Tours team.

Tour Co-Ordinator Susannah and the team responded immediately, working closely with the school to secure alternative arrangements and adapt plans where necessary. Their proactive approach ensured the trip continued smoothly and minimised disruption for both staff and pupils.

Obviously  having the hotel cancelled and then changing the hotel location made for immediate problems with our route planner and itinerary, but Suzannah was able to support us, to change the plans and make different arrangements with hotels and drivers. This was flawless, and Suzannah reacted immediately to our requests. She was very supportive and accommodating.
