For a school trip to the USA, UK students can typically travel under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), which allows them to stay for up to 90 days without a visa, provided they have an approved ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization).

However, the trip must be for tourism or business purposes, so if the school trip involves educational activities that do not lead to earning academic credit or a degree, it should qualify under the VWP. Be sure to apply for the ESTA before traveling.
