Geography School Trips to
The Blue Lagoon

As one of the wonders of the world, a school trip to the Blue Lagoon is a must. Take a relaxing dip in its irresistibly warm and sumptuously soothing waters.

Located in the midst of an extensive, undulating, fractured and fissured 900-year-old lava field, the Blue Lagoon is an extensive lagoon of mineral-rich, geothermally heated sea water. White silica in suspension in the water gives the lagoon an opaque appearance, whilst the blue-green algae, thriving in the deliciously warm water, provide the aquamarine colouration.

As well as the well maintained 37°C water temperature to relax in (but remember that the air temperature can be anything from +20°C to -15°C), there are saunas and steam baths to enjoy, a tumbling massage waterfall to experience and silica mud pots to scoop. Applying the silica mud to the face will tighten skin and ease away wrinkles when dried (however Rayburn Tours can’t offer guarantees!).

The best time of the year to visit on your school trip? Anytime! However, to be in the Blue Lagoon in winter (October through to March/April) – as the sun sets, darkness descends and the stars come out, with a chill in the air and frost in your hair – is pretty awesome! If you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights as they start to play overhead.
